Statement Of Intent
Product 1
My magazine will be called 'TENDANCE' , this name was chosen because it is a French word which translates to 'trend' this will be memorable to the audience as the deeper meaning is interesting and links to the idea of fashion and trends of today. The word Tendance also holds the meaning of a trace of some quality in a persons character. This is a statement in itself as the magazine brand can hold the idea of ones individuality and everyone having their own special qualities that make their personality unique. The masthead will be conventional and bold at the top of the cover, which is usually seen in the majority of mainstream fashion magazines. The house style will be vibrant yet simplistic , this will reflect the target demographic by being bold and easy to read, as the target audience is 16-25 year olds of an AB social class. The main colour for the brand name of 'TENDANCE' will be black with the font being impact. However, on each cover this will not be the case as i think it will be a memorable touch for the magazine to colour coordinate the masthead with the main colour of the magazine. This will make every cover released by Tendance unique and special which links to the definition of the brand name. My first cover will include conventional semiotics such as tag lines stating 'what to wear this summer'. This will be one of my feature stories and will appear to the AB demographic as i will make sure that the outfit shown on the model in the preview picture will be a trending outfit of the time. Other conventions i will include on both covers are barcodes, issue number, price and a photograph of a model. I will make the costume in my first product to be simplistic yet bold as well as tight fitting as a way to link with a sporty look. This will match the profession of the model as i will make the theme based around the models life in dance. The representation in this cover will be the traditional with the model being slim and pretty- this is to follow conventions however, some stereotypical conventions are challenged as the model will wear gym gear to enhance the fitness and athletic feel. For the background of the front covers i will photograph both products in studio lighting with a plain white background in order to make the subject the focal point,
Product 2
My second product will feature a different model that is of a different race and gender; this is to create diversity in the representations shown to convey the message of everyone being completely different individuals. This also reinforces the idea of equality and shows the audience that every culture should have the opportunity to get involved in Tendance. This is also relevant to the target audience as other high-end fashion magazines such as vouge have featured a variety of ethnicity's and race for example Zendaya. This cover will be a studio shoot and the mise en scene will include blue and red lighting to create a colourful effect over the model, the background will be left plain so that the focus is directed to the model however, i wish to position my model on a step ladder in order to link with the message of starting from the bottom and climbing to the top. Furthermore, this cover will feature only one main feature sell line. This is not usually conventional for a fashion magazine however it has been done by other high-end fashion magazines such as Vouge and Elle. The costume worn by the model will be unisex street wear styled with jewellery this will be understood by the target demographic because popular people of today set trends where men can dress feminine women can dress masculine for example Harry Styles.
Website
I intend to create synergy between my website and magazine covers and contents pages by continuing the bold and vibrant house style. The images used will also contain some of the same models featured on the contents pages and covers to demonstrate the correlation between the physical products and the online presence. I will also hope to record footage of one of the models to add to an article in order to bring the story to life. I also aim to create a moving advert from scratch to conform to the usual lifestyle website. I think that if i include clothing and holiday suggestions then the website will serve a purpose of giving advice and helping the audience demographic in an entertaining way.
